Before gaining wider visibility as a screenwriter with “The Iron Lady,” “Shame” and the BBC series “The Hour,” Abi Morgan acquired a reputation in Britain for her formally and stylistically inventive plays, which have been compared to the work of Caryl Churchill because of their pithy language and elliptical action. Her drama “Tiny Dynamite” was a hit at the 2001 Edinburgh Festival Fringe in a production that united two adventurous British companies, the new-writing specialists Paines Plough and Frantic Assembly, known for dynamic physical theater. It featured Steven Hoggett, who was also one of the directors and is known in New York for creating the idiosyncratic choreography for “Once,” “Black Watch” and “American Idiot.”
