Closing: October 23, 2011
Theater: NY Theatre Workshop
Elevator Repair Service’s The Select (The Sun Also Rises), which is directed by John Collins, is based on the novel by Ernest Hemingway. It presents a fresh take on Hemingway’s tale of young expatriates living in early 20th century Europe in which journalist Jake Barnes, his former lover Lady Brett Ashley, and the writer Robert Cohn cope with post-war realities and enter the "age of anxiety" following the end World War I.

It takes great discipline to stay sloppy drunk for three hours and still be smart and engaging. I bet you’ve never achieved that. (If you think you have, your memory is lying.) So raise a brimming glass to Elevator Repair Service, which exists in what appears to be a state of perpetual and severe intoxication for the entirety of “The Select (The Sun Also Rises),” which opened Sunday night at the New York Theater Workshop.
