Nine-almost-ten-year-old Thomas Klopper imagines tropical fish swimming in Amsterdam’s canals, torrential hailstorms raging in midsummer, and Jesus stopping by every now and again for a chat. Thomas chronicles his daydreams in the The Book Of Everything, a secret diary that contains his greatest aspiration: "When I grow up, I’m going to be happy." But happiness eludes Thomas, his sister and his Mama as they struggle with a controlling and sometimes violent Papa. Filled with both humor and hope. Appropriate for ages 10 and up.

The adventurous New Victory Theater seems to be on a mission to prove that theater for children can be serious without being ponderous. In “The Book of Everything,” an adaptation of a novel by the Dutch writer Guus Kuijer, the 9-year-old hero, Thomas Klopper, must deal with weighty matters: religion, fear, a tyrannical father.
