Michael Mayer directs the new Broadway revival of Marsha Norman’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, “‘night, Mother”, starring Edie Falco and Brenda Blethyn. The play is about a complicated relationship between a mother (Thelma Cates played by Blethyn) and daughter (Jessie Cates played by Falco). Jesse is faced with the perception that her life no longer has significant meaning and informs her mother, whom she lives with, that she has come to a critical moment of decision.

As your grandmother or therapist probably told you, there is something to be said for staying busy in a time of crisis. Playing a pair of women whose shared life is about to be torn asunder, Edie Falco and Brenda Blethyn have an ocean of household chores to swim through in the strangely uninvolving new production of Marsha Norman’s “‘Night, Mother” at the Royale Theater.
