Centering on the political rifts currently cleaving society, “Confirmation” attempts to have an honorable dialogue, real and imagined, with extremist thinking. Developed through a series of conversations between Thorpe and a British activist from the extreme right, “Confirmation” tackles frustrations within political discourse and the phenomenon of “Confirmation Bias”.

Try to see things his way. That’s the assignment that Chris Thorpe has given himself in “Confirmation,” his one-man show at the Invisible Dog Art Center in Brooklyn, and it’s a mighty big ask. Mr. Thorpe, you see, is firmly on the left politically, and Glen, the man whose point of view he is trying to grasp, is — not to mince words — a Nazi. To be exact, what Glen says is that he is “a proud National Socialist.” But when asked by Mr. Thorpe if by that he means a Nazi, Glen answers, “Yes,” to which he adds memorably, “But let’s not get hung up on the Germans.” Glen’s words are spoken, in this case, by an audience member for “Confirmation” (which runs through Sunday as part of the Coil festival), who has been selected on the spot to read from a notecard. Mr. Thorpe, a British performance artist of strong intellectual passions, wants us, too, to try to put ourselves in Glen’s shoes, no matter how much they might pinch.
