After entering into the witness protection program, Langley is forced to leave his life and memories behind for a new identity. Feeling isolated and alone, he desperately wants to connect with the people around him, but is held back by his secrets. You can see how “Protected” would work well at the New York International Fringe Festival, where it had its start. There’s this comically nervous guy, afraid of his own shadow (for good reason — he is brand-new in the witness protection program), dealing with his next-to-worst nightmare: a series of odd characters turning up, in rapid succession, at his front door. And he hasn’t even finished installing the new locks.
