In Mike Bartlett’s 55-Minute Four-Hander, the power plays are acted out in public. In a crackling design from Soutra Gilmour, the office becomes a corporate wrestling ring, complete with water cooler, with the audience sitting or standing around the four sides. You cannot avoid being drawn into the contest and become complicit – even guilty enjoying the spectacle of the kill.

The latest model in boxing rings, which has been installed at 59E59 Theaters, comes equipped with its own water cooler. Designed with a cold and canny eye by Soutra Gilmour, this ring has also been outfitted with gray industrial carpeting, chrome accents and, in place of rope-a-dope cords, sleek, hard plastic panels with built-in document storage space.
