Cameron Mackintosh presents the Royal National Theatre’s wildly-acclaimed production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s landmark musical Oklahoma!, directed by Trevor Nunn and featuring choreography by Susan Stroman. The show features such classic musical numbers as "Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin," "People Will Say We’re In Love," "The Surrey With the Fringe On Top" and the title song. Set in the territory of Oklahoma at the turn of the century, against a background of the rivalry between cattlemen and farmers, the musical tells the story of the farm girl Laurey and the two rivals for her affection: the cowboy Curly and Jud, the brooding farmhand. Patty Duke returns to Broadway in the role of Aunt Eller.

A LESS tenacious, obstinate or driven director might have given up the battle, but Trevor Nunn was always determined to give New York theatergoers a chance to see the makeover of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ”Oklahoma!,” which he staged at the National Theater here in 1998. And why not? The production, praised by almost every reviewer for its freshness, moved to the West End, drew the crowds and, Mr. Nunn would like to think, still has something fundamental to say about the values and virtues of America.
