The laughter stops, at least for a moment, with the first embrace. It’s been more than five years since Amanda and Elyot have been cheek to cheek, and the occasion is honored with a silence that roars like the ocean. Lest you doubt this is serious stuff, check out the expression on her face, seen over his shoulder. It’s a look of rapture, resignation and abject terror. As he will say later, none too happily, ”We’re in love all right.”
