There are many gargoyles jazzing up the exterior of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame. But only Pierre, stony and lonesome, is hopelessly in love with a pigeon. In Anton Dudley’s fanciful and leaden City Of, four Americans find themselves in Paris, stumbling upon vermin, absinthe, Paul Verlaine and Pierre, the mournful chunk of statuary. Eleanor (Suzanne Bertish) has come seeking her dead father; Dash (Devin Norik) is in quest of his dead mother. Cammie (Colby Minifie) dreams of opera stardom, and Claude (Jon Norman Schneider) is enticed by Henri Rousseau’s canvas “The Dream,” which haunts Cameron Anderson’s handsome set.
