It’s a truth Maurice Sendak often explored in his books that parents cannot understand or properly judge the little id bundles they call their children. So perhaps Sendak couldn’t understand or properly judge “Really Rosie,” the 1980 musical he wrote with Carole King. According to his friend Tony Kushner, he loved it; it was the one adaptation of his work he felt was “completely him.”
