Part welcome mat, part barricade, Sarah Paulson’s bright and forbidding smile is the perfect emblem for “Still Life,” Alexander Dinelaris’s teary look at creative paralysis, which opened on Monday night at the Lucille Lortel Theater. It’s a smile that says, “Come here” and “Keep your distance” at the same time, and you understand why prospective suitors of Ms. Paulson’s character, a photographer named Carrie Ann, might freeze in their tracks just when they want to rush toward her.
